Here is one of the esteemed Magpie editors, Simon Anthony (right) and one of our esteemed subscribers, David McNeill (left) warming up for some Magpie solving at the World Sudoku Championships in Goa, along with UK team members George Danker and Michael Collins. David came second in the “classic” class, and seventh (or possibly fifth) overall. Simon came 75th overall. [Picture from the Times 17th April 2008]

Some will travel far to try to get into the Guinness Book of Records. Our cameraman caught up with these friends in Goa attempting to break the record for number of Sudokus solved during a partial eclipse of the sun by a team of four males, category 25-45. This idea follows last week’s dismal attempt in Venezuela at the total eclipse record; onlookers reported to the VBC that two of the team couldn’t find their biros.
